Disability Confident is a free government scheme designed to help employers make the most of the benefits provided by employing disabled people. The scheme aims to embed practices and methods based around equality at the very heart of an organisation.

Why has TPP signed up to this scheme?

When it comes to EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), we believe that our commitment is best demonstrated through our own actions, and this initiative will support us in our own internal efforts of becoming an inclusive employer of choice. We want to play a role in changing attitudes towards disability and proactively attract, develop, and retain more disabled talent in the recruitment industry.

Having proudly been shortlisted for a RIDI (Recruitment Industry Disability Initiative) Award in 2021 for the category of Inclusive Recruiter of the Year, we want to build on this achievement and look forward to progressing onto Level 2 of the scheme to continue our own learning.

We also hope to positively influence our own clients in the non-profit sector, as well as other recruitment businesses, to consider schemes such as this when taking steps to attract more diverse talent.

How does it work?

Level 1 Disability Confident Committed

The first step is to sign up as Disability Confident Committed. This involves providing your contact details; signing up to the Disability Confident commitments and identifying at least one thing you can do to make a difference for disabled people.

Level 2 Disability Confident Employer

To become a Disability Confident Employer, you will need to carry out a self-assessment of your organisation to ensure you meet the criteria. This includes getting the right people for your business, retaining them, and helping them develop.

Level 3 Disability Confident Leader

By stepping up to become a Disability Confident Leader, your business can gain recognition among your peers. You will be acting as a champion within your local and business community, your supply chain, and your networks.

What is TPP doing to be recognised as Disability Confident Committed (Level 1)?

All organisations signing up to the scheme must agree to these 5 commitments:

  • Inclusive and accessible recruitment
  • Communicate vacancies
  • Offer an interview to disabled people
  • Provide reasonable adjustments
  • Support existing employees

It is important to highlight that these commitments are applicable to our own internal recruitment and not those of our clients and the roles that we recruit for on their behalf.

If you would like to find out more about this scheme for your own organisation, please visit the Disability Confident Employer Scheme, and you can access information on recently updated guidance on the 'Access to Work' factsheet for employers here.
