Board Trustee

Reporting to - Board Chair

Location - Remote

Hours - 4-6 hours per month, including board meetings.

The trustee will play a critical role in the governance and strategic direction of Breathe On, our aims, mission and values.

Working closely with the Breathe On Senior Management Team (SMT) and the Board Chair, you will be responsible for ensuring the charity is well-managed, meets its legal requirements and its activities are aligned with the charity’s mission and strategic objectives.

Job brief:

We are looking for a passionate and committed trustee to provide oversight, support the Senior Management Team and contribute to strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the charity complies with its governing documents and adheres to laws and regulations
  • Participate in the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures, ensuring the charity operates in ethical and transparent manner
  • Contribute to setting the charity’s strategic goals/objectives and evaluating performance against agreed objectives, participate in periodic strategic planning and reviews, as necessary
  • Oversee, review and approve annual budgets, financial reports and key financial decisions. Ensure funds are managed responsibly and in alignment with the charity’s objectives
  • Identify and assess potential risks to the charity’s operations and reputation, ensuring an appropriate risk management strategy is in place
  • Support the charity’s fundraising efforts by leveraging personal and professional networks and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders
  • Attend and participate in board meetings, committee meetings and special charity events
  • To undertake tasks to support the Chair, as and when requested.
  • To use any specific skills, knowledge and experience to help the Board make sound decisions

Requirements and skills:

  • A commitment to volunteering and to the work of the Charity, its mission, vision and values
  • Prior experience in charity governance and leadership as part of a Board for notfor-profit organisation is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work collaboratively
  • Some financial acumen with experience in financial and budget management.

There is a probation period of three months before being confirmed as a trustee.
